Meet the trainer Q&A
Chris Barrett – Kings Hill
Why should installers train with us?
Our training courses are designed by engineers, for engineers. All trainers go above and beyond, making sure all attendees leave with the knowledge to safely and confidently install, commission, fault find, and carry out routine maintenance on Vaillant's range of products.
What is your favourite course to teach?
ecoTEC plus diagnostic and fault finding. It’s a really interactive training session, where installers can interrogate the boiler interface using the various diagnostic aids, along with live component testing, which inspires confidence whilst carrying out fault finding and repairs.
What’s your favourite thing about training in Kings Hill?
Kings Hill COE is a busy, large, modern, well-equipped training facility, located just off the M20 near Maidstone in Kent, with plenty of free parking. We have live Vaillant domestic and commercial boilers, heat pumps and a control set-up, offering installers in-depth training options on our full product range.
What’s your favourite product and why?
Vaillant’s range of controls, they provide installers with lots of options to offer their customers a very efficient way of heating their home.
How did you get into the industry?
I originally joined the industry fresh out of School in 1995, working for my Fathers business, learning all aspects of heating design and installation. I quickly started to learn how to fault find and repair, enjoying the challenge of arriving at a broken boiler and leaving with it working. I joined Vaillant in January 2022, later starting in the training team.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to anyone attending a training day?
Be prepared to join in and immerse yourself in the day, ask as many questions and make as many notes as you can, it will benefit you long term. There’s no such thing as a silly question.
