Meet the trainer Q&A
John Cassells – Glasgow
Why should installers train with us?
Every one of our trainers are passionate about the industry and products Vaillant make. We’re all ex-engineers with an enthusiasm for technical details and want to promote the best practices for our installers and their customers.
What is your favourite course to teach?
aroTHERM plus Service and Diagnostics. It’s a good blend of reinforcing technical knowledge from the installation course, and practical activities where attendees can strip down the heat pumps in the training centre and become a lot more comfortable working with them.
What’s your favourite thing about training in Glasgow?
The Glasgow Centre of Excellence is one of the larger training facilities, which houses a great selection of live appliances and demo rigs to work on, as well as being the central hub for the Scottish service and sales teams - there is always something going on!
What’s your favourite product and why?
The aroTHERM plus - it keeps my house warm in winter!
How did you get into the industry?
I started out as an apprentice, before moving to Vaillant as an engineer in 2013. While working as the Lead engineer for Scotland the training manager position opened up, and I’ve been training from the Glasgow Centre of Excellence since 2021.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to anyone attending a training day?
Learning is a journey, not a one-day course. Whether you’re new to the industry, finding out more about boilers, or an experienced installer moving towards renewables, you must be prepared to invest time for learning and development. Come in with an open mind, ask lots of questions, and we will do everything we can to fill in the blanks.
