Meet the trainer Q&A
Lee Johnson - Belper
Why should installers train with us?
All of Vaillant’s trainers are long time served industry professionals with a wealth of knowledge across all relevant topics. The free to attend courses have been developed, tested, and reviewed by the full training and development team to ensure we're delivering over and above the quality of traditional industry courses.
What is your favourite course to teach?
The heat pump courses. This is an area of the industry that is rapidly growing with an increasing number of engineers needing to be upskilled. It's great to know I'm a key part in that journey and an opportunity for me to pass on the things I’ve learnt in my career.
What’s your favourite thing about training in Belper?
Training out of the Belper CoE brings its own uniqueness as it's also on site of the UK Head Office, so installers also get a real feel for Vaillant and the hub of our operations.
What’s your favourite product and why?
I'm a massive controls geek and love the senso range of controls and wiring centres. Imagine a race car with budget tyres and an inexperienced driver - you're never going to get the full potential out of that car. Essentially, this is what I think with any of our appliances not using our own controls – they’re built to work in unison, improving performance, capability and efficiency.
How did you get into the industry?
I started working for Vaillant straight from school, at first in the customer contact centre. Since then, I've moved around a bit in the industry, covering a variety of roles and feel all have served me extremely well to now being a trainer, which requires good knowledge in all areas
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to anyone attending a training day?
This is your day, your time and your learning experience - use it as best you can. Get as much out of the day as possible, asking questions, taking notes. Also, don't feel deflated if you don't understand everything - this is just one building block in your learning journey, and remember, you can always revisit the course after gaining more experience in the field or, after additional upskilling.
